MAINTAINING a safe and effective road network is one of the City of Casey’s top priorities in its $189 million 2008-09 budget.
The road rehabilitation program will receive $5.6 million to spend on improvements on 36 roads in Berwick, Doveton and Narre Warren.
The council also approved $2.1 million for the sealing of Robinsons Road in Pearcedale, from Western Port Highway to Smiths Lane, and $1.05 million for road resealing on other roads throughout the municipality.
A total of $510,000 will be spent on various traffic management works at various greyspot high risk locations across Casey.
Typically, the works may involve the installation of guard rails, construction of turning lanes, road shoulder sealing and minor road realignment.
Some of the proposed locations include Pound Road, Fairholme Boulevard and Inglis Road.
To keep the council’s assets maintained, $11 million will be spent on Casey’s roads, drains and paths that have been valued at more than $900 million.
