WATER is a hot topic and the warm variety used in showers will be dramatically reduced with new showerheads to be given away.
Water Minister John Thwaites was at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre last week to promote an exchange that will involve 180,000 water-efficient three-star showerheads given to Melbourne residents over the next three years.
Participants need to register their interest in the program with their water supplier, which will then organise the new showerhead to be delivered by the end of the year.
Research shows using a water-efficient showerhead can save about $60 a year on energy and water bills.
One new showerhead can also save as much water a year as the amount stored in a small water tank.
Government officials have also stressed the importance of reducing the time spent in the shower to help towards conserving the water supply in Victoria.
Melbourne’s water storage level is at 43.2 per cent.
