BERWICK photography teacher David Chan and his talented clan of happy-snapping students extend a warm and open invitation to their upcoming exhibition.
The Chan Clan, an exhibition of work by Mr Chan’s students in Dandenong and at the Narre Community Learning Centre will open at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick on Friday, 1 September.
The show will then run from 10am to 4pm seven days a week until Saturday, 30 September.
For Mr Chan, who gives evening classes on Mondays and Thursdays in Narre Warren and Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Dandenong, this is the seventh exhibition of his students’ work.
“I’m very excited because I like to pass on my knowledge to those who wish to learn,” he said.
Mr Chan said the show would feature about 60 works from 23 of his charges, who he described as an enthusiastic bunch.
“We have fun, and that’s the main thing. Of course it will be good – we’re all excited about it,” he said.
Mr Chan’s claim was backed up by student Kim Scott, who has recently enrolled in a third term of her introduction into digital photography.
“We just go (to the classes) and have a ball, as well as learning,” she said.
“We’ve got a whole load of photos we’re very proud of.”
Ms Scott said members of her Thursday evening class, which comprised women of all ages, were very supportive of one another and had assembled their best work for the show.
All sorts of subjects will be displayed in colour, black and white, and sepia.
Ms Scott, who has been taking photographs ‘for ever’ but only recently decided to learn how to improve her craft, said her hobby had developed into a passion.
Among pieces she is exhibiting are architectural shots, including images of the Old Cheese Factory itself.
“It’s a beautiful venue, a really country, rural thing in the middle of Berwick. Just come and have a look,” she advised prospective viewers.
The photographs are all for sale, and opening night, which kicks off at 7pm, will feature a raffle with proceeds going to the Old Cheese Factory.
