BEFORE the Scorpions senior game, Premier Steve Bracks and City of Casey mayor Kevin Bradford officially opened the new football facility at Casey Fields.
With a large crowd in attendance, the Scorpions pegged back an early Box Hill lead to trail by four points at the major break.
After losing big men Cain Ackland and Barry Brooks to injury, coach Peter Banfield was forced to restructure his forward line.
A spirited third-quarter effort saw the home side in front by five points at the last change, however a hamstring strain to Leigh Morse left the Scorpions with one player on the bench for the final term.
The Scorpions finished with plenty of run in their legs and had solid contributions from local boys Michael Hobbs (who kicked five goals) and David Biagi.
Mark McGough (35 disposals) and Michael Rix also played well.
Although finishing with a number of injuries, Banfield is hopeful that Cain Ackland, Barry Brooks and Leigh Morse might be available for the next game.
Scores Casey Scorpions 18.19.127 d Box Hill Hawks 11.19.85.
Goals: M. Hobbs 5, B. Fraser 3, B. Brooks 2, N. Carmody 2, C. Ackland, D. Biagi, M. McGough, S. Gilbert, B. Cosgriff, M. Rix, 1.
