CHRISTMAS is a time for giving and Eumemmerring College students have done their share already.
The Gleneagles campus students organised a FIFA soccer day last week and scored goals both on and off the field by raising $500.
The aim of the year 9 advanced program was to do something for others while making a contribution to the community, and this was achieved by using the money raised to buy presents for the Salvation Army.
More than 150 students competed in the FIFA day with all players required to raise $3.50 to take part in the action.
The students then used the money to buy a variety of gifts for both boys and girls from Endeavour Hills Big W.
Organising teacher Jo Tippett was thrilled with the students’ efforts and said they had developed excellent leadership skills and gained an appreciation for helping others.
“They enjoyed the day and put a lot of thought into their shopping. They made huge efforts to get value for money and ensured they were providing for a range of age group for both boys and girls,” Ms Tippett said.
Year 9 student Casey said the program was a great experience that provided a great deal of enjoyment to everyone who took part.
“To know we have helped the Salvation Army in this way makes us feel good,” Casey said.
