EUMEMMERRING College students who are accused of having a big mouth can rest easy.
That’s because those at the Gleneagles Campus have been taking part in a new school debating tournament dubbed Big Mouth.
The Big Mouth competition allows students to explore controversial and contentious issues that interest them.
Co-ordinator Debra Gaudion said the debating format was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop a range of skills.
“In addition to the Debating Association of Victoria Schools Competitions, Big Mouth will offer students an excellent opportunity to investigate and provide their opinions on pertinent issues in today’s society,” Ms Gaudion said.
“Debating builds students’ confidence, thinking and problem solving skills, public speaking skills, research skills, general knowledge and ability to work in a team.”
Year 10 student Sai said: “It’s exciting to be able to present our arguments in a different way using charts, handouts and visual means to support our prepared speeches.”
