THE story of how a little pig came to be is set to help students at Strathaird Primary School in Narre Warren South boost their little piggy banks.
As part of Literacy Week activities the school’s students have been invited to enter a colouring and short story competition sponsored by Bendigo Bank in Narre Warren.
If successful, the students could receive a new account among other prizes.
Joanne McDonald, business manager at Strathaird Primary School, said students already had their thinking caps on and best colouring pencils out in anticipation.
Ms McDonald said the junior school would be completing a colouring competition while grades five and six students had been invited to write a 100 to 200word short story.
“The short story will be about how the piggy got to be the Bendigo Bank’s mascot.
“It will be great fun for students and will also help them work on their writing skills,” she said.
The competition entry forms were handed out on Tuesday and entries close on 12 September. Winners will be announced on 19 September.
Michelle Hawke, branch manager of Bendigo Bank in Narre Warren South, said the bank enjoyed getting involved in community projects and local schools.
“We had a fairly good relationship with Strathaird already through school banking.
“This competition will be really fun for the students and will be a great way for children to work on, and improve, their writing,” she said.
