CASEY council has released its $190 million draft 2008-09 budget for public scrutiny.
The budget allows $43 million for infrastructure projects and $147 million for services.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said residents would benefit from projects and service initiatives in areas such as sport and recreation, the arts, community development, community safety, strategic planning and services for youth, families, children and older people.
The council said this year’s 5.9 per cent rate increase ensures Casey ratepayers continue to pay lower rates than residents in most other Victorian municipalities.
A total of $9.4 million has been put aside to complete the $37 million water smart Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre by mid 2009.
Road rehabilitation projects on 36 Berwick, Doveton and Narre Warren roads are set to receive $5.6 million.
The scheme to seal Robinsons Road, from Western Port Highway to Smiths Lane in Pearcedale has been allocated $2.1 million and $1.05 million has been set aside for road resealing in Berwick, Cranbourne and Endeavour Hills.
Melbourne Football Club players could benefit from $750,000 for the extension to the VFL pavilion at Casey Fields for their training and $140,000 for sealing the VFL oval car park.
The works are subject to an agreement with Melbourne Football Club.
Berwick’s Gwendoline Drive Kindergarten will receive $1.6 million to build an extension.
Copies of the draft budget are available for inspection at the City of Casey customer service centres in Narre Warren, Narre Warren South and Cranbourne.
