– Kelly Yates
POLICE will be stepping up patrols for this Saturday’s 2008 annual MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Sergeant Pat McGavigan said the TMU units at Dandenong, Cardinia and Frankston police stations would be supporting Casey police on Saturday morning.
Sgt McGavigan said police would be heavily patrolling the South Gippsland Highway from tomorrow (Friday) to Monday for traffic travelling to and from Phillip Island.
More than 25 police from Cranbourne, Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills will be at the upcoming event that is expecting to attract crowds of more than 10,000.
Sgt McGavigan said the police would be there to support and assist the crowd and the motorcyclists.
High Street in Cranbourne, between Stawell Street and Sladen Street, will be reduced to one lane for both north and south bound traffic between 8am and 11am for the official wave off at 10am.
Stawell Street, Childers Street, Lyall Street and Bakewell Street will be closed from early Saturday morning until later that afternoon between High Street and Codrington Street.
