THE launch of the 2009 Holt Australia Day Awards has provided an opportunity to celebrate local volunteers.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne launched the awards on 5 December, the 28th anniversary of the United Nations International Volunteer Day.
“I’m always amazed by the time and effort people give to help others and it’s why I decided to launch the 2009 Holt Australia Day Awards today,” Mr Byrne said. “Volunteers make Australia and Holt a wonderful place to live. They are the glue that binds the community together and the Holt Australia Day Awards give me on behalf of the local community the chance to say thank you.”
The Holt Australia Day Awards celebrate local community organisations and individuals who dedicate their time to the local community. Mr Byrne said the people that will be honoured with the award symbolise what it means to be Australian.
“Their generosity in the large amount of time they give to their community, in a typically understated way, cannot be measure,” he said.
Nomination forms for the Holt Australia Day awards are available at Anthony Byrne’s office on 9796 7533, or via email on ab@anthonybyrnemp.com. Awards will be presented on Australia Day in a ceremony at Betula Reserve in Doveton.
