A GIANT water quilt at Hillsmeade Primary School demonstrates the Year 3C students’ passion for water.
With the help of talented mum Leanne Peel, each student designed their own square on paper that was then printed onto fabric and sewn into the 2.5m x 2.5m water quilt.
“The centre message of the quilt focuses on water conservation. How many buckets can you save?” Hillsmeade teacher Evelyn Schultz said.
“Water was chosen as a theme to continue on from the students’ work in term two and to help students understand the enormity of our water situation.”
South East Water’s ‘Water – Learn it! Live it!’ education officer Penny Lynch said Hillsmeade Primary School was Silver Accredited in the ‘Water – Learn it! Live it!’ program, which provided schools with the opportunity to be recognised for their commitment to water conservation.
“South East Water is so excited to see schools and their students take on board our water conservation message,” Ms Lynch said.
“Turning it into such a beautiful work of art sets a wonderful precedent for future year groups involved in the program.”
Ms Schultz said students enjoyed making the quilt, which took six months to complete.
“Next year we plan to make another quilt with a new theme ‘The Ecological Footprint’,” she said.
