Running for life

By Kelly Yates
TEAM Jess members are gearing up for the 2009 Casey Cardinia Relay for Life with their major charity auction The Hint of Pink on 21 February at the Grand International in Dandenong.
At last year’s fundraising event, The Hint of Pink night raised more than $30,000.
Team Jess will return for its third year of fun and remembrance at the Casey and Cardinia Relay for Life, which raises money for the Cancer Council of Victoria, on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March at Akoonah Park in Berwick.
Formed in honour of Narre Warren woman Jess Atwell, who lost her battle with cancer in 2006 aged 27, the group has 85 supporting members.
The event is a 24-hour walk or run, where teams of 10 or more people take up the challenge to keep their team’s baton moving.
All funds raised enable the Cancer Council to continue its cancer research and provide cancer education programs and support services across Victoria.
The relay is a great time to remember passed loved ones and honour those surviving with cancer, according to Team Jess captain Heather Atwell.
The Hint of Pink charity auction will go from 7.30pm to 12.30am.
Cost is $65 per person and includes beer, wine and soft drink, finger food and live entertainment. Tickets are limited and dress code is formal.
Some of the items that will be auctioned include signed and framed football jumpers.
For bookings or to donate items call Simon on 0431 274 673.
