Winners of the Casey Citizen of the Year Awards were presented on Australia Day. Non-Resident of the Year Gary Saunders, Senior Citizen of the Year Sue Hughes, City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett, Young Citizen of the Year Danielle Di Carlo and Citizen of the Year Roman Nowak.Winners of the Casey Citizen of the Year Awards were presented on Australia Day. FOUR people who have made significant contributions to the City of Casey were honoured at a special ceremony on Australia Day.
City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett officiated at the ceremony where the Casey Citizen of the Year Award winners and the Australia Day Study Tour Award recipients were announced.
“Each of the nominees has won the admiration and appreciation of the community and deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution in helping to make Casey the wonderful place that it is,” he said.
“The City of Casey is proud to formally recognise their work and achievements through these prestigious awards.”
Roman Nowak from Cannon’s Creek received the Citizen of the Year award at the ceremony for his contribution as a volunteer with the Salvation Army in Cranbourne, his involvement with the Menzies Inc. organisation, and his contribution to the Devon Meadows CFA and the Independent Person Program.
Volunteering in her community and mentoring younger students at her school won Narre Warren resident Danielle Di Carlo the Young Citizen of the Year award.
Berwick resident Sue Hughes won the Casey Senior Citizen of the Year award for being involved in a range of activities including running and co-ordinating playgroups, conducting cooking classes for older men, and fund-raising for a number of local charities.
The Casey Non-resident of the Year award went to Gary Saunders of Dandenong North.
Mr Saunders helped with the development of the industry advisory panel at Lyndhurst Secondary College, where he also volunteered and acted as a mentor for students.
Ten students also received Australia Day Study Tour Awards at the special ceremony, which gives them the opportunity to observe Federal, State and local government in Australia.
Winners were Adam Boswell and Ahmed Ibrahim from Eumemmerring College, Endeavour Hills Campus, Stacy Colebrook and Kathryn Morison of St Francis Xavier College, Lauren Johnson from Berwick Secondary College, Kyesha Keleher from Hampton Park Secondary College, Eden Lovejoy from Hillcrest Christian College, James McAllister from Eumemmerring College, Fountain Gate Campus, April Watson from Cranbourne Secondary College, and Hafiza Zahidee from Lyndhurst Secondary College.
