FLAGS were flying as patriotic families celebrated all things Australian at Monday’s Australia Day event at Pioneers Park in Berwick.
The free festivities kicked off at 11am, with live performances, food stalls, coach rides and the flag-raising ceremony.
Children of all ages were treated to activities including whip cracking, sack races, jumping castle, swing ride, blow up slide, face painting.
They explored displays by the Berwick fire brigade and St John Ambulance Australia.
The Rotary Club of Berwick hosted the event, which attracted more than 2000 people.
President Lynne Westland said she was thrilled with the turn out at the event.
“This event is our way of giving something back to the community,” she said.
“The joy in everyone is priceless and that’s why I’m a Rotarian.”
The Casey Pipe Band escorted the Australia Day ambassador and Network 10 weather presenter Mike Larkin, City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett, Edrington Ward councillor Simon Curtis and Ms Westland to the main stage for the official welcoming ceremony.
Cr Ablett said Australia Day was a community day, and a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together as a community.
Mr Larkin, who has been the ambassador for more than 10 years, said Australia Day was a celebration of heritage.
