CASEY Central Secondary College is one of seven government schools in Melbourne to welcome their first Year 7 students.
The new college opened its doors on Monday for 114 students in temporary accommodation on the Hillsmeade Primary School site in Narre Warren South.
The school, one of the first ‘private-public partnership’ schools, is set to open at its permanent site off Glasscocks Road in Cranbourne North in 2010.
Principal Ian McKenzie told the News he had received positive feedback from the students and staff after the first day.
“Some of the students said the school was awesome and that it felt different from primary school,” he said.
“Even our first graduate teacher said the first day was fabulous and that she wanted to cry at the end of the day with excitement.”
Mr McKenzie said it was fantastic to hear that the students felt safe.
“It’s important for us to have a secure and safe environment,” he said.
Casey Central Secondary College currently has 18 staff.
