MYUNA Market is celebrating its first anniversary this week.
The market, which was developed in response to a community need for affordable and regular access to produce, is open every Thursday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at Myuna Farm in Doveton.
The not-for-profit initiative is run by volunteers, with all of the profits from the market going back into the running of the market.
Market volunteer and coordinator Karin McLean said the past year had been a learning experience.
“The market is now safer and more comfortable inside one of the pavilions at the farm,” she said.
“Children can enjoy themselves on the playground equipment while their parents select fresh food and can still keep an eye on them.”
Most of Myuna Market’s produce is seasonal produce sourced from the Melbourne markets, with some fruit, vegetables and eggs provided each week by local backyard producers.
