STUDENTS from a Narre Warren primary school donned runners for a walkathon to raise money for another primary school that was destroyed during the fires.
Staff, students and the school community at Oatlands Primary School raised more than $12,000 during the walkathon on Monday morning. The money raised from the event will go towards re-building Marysville Primary School. Marysville Primary School teacher Sue Hill, who used to live in Narre Warren, spoke to the students during an assembly before the walkathon.
Oatlands Primary School principal Stuart Daly told the News he was hoping the school would raise around $3000.
“I feel proud with the amount of money raised. It exceeded all expectations,” he said.
Some 690 students took part in the event, which ran for 40 minutes.
“The younger students walked 1km while the older ones walked around 3km,” Mr Daly said.
