CASEY Kidz Klub is celebrating after merging with disability services operator Marillac House.
Casey Kidz Klub, which provides after-school and holiday activities for children with disabilities, started as a pilot program for 12 children from Dandenong Valley School in 2006.
The initiative, which is managed by an advisory committee, has been based at Beaconhills College in Berwick.
Casey Kidz Klub advisory committee member Amanda Stapledon told the News it was a logical step for the service to merge with Marillac House.
“It’s important for the current kids and their families, and for other families who could find this service valuable, that we make sure it is sustainable and strong,” she said.
Families can be comfortable that their children will experience the same high level of care and support, according to Ms Stapledon.
“We’ve worked so closely with Marillac on the transition we don’t expect families to see any changes – except, down the track, some increase in the options available for their kids,” she said.
Marillac House CEO Johanna Snelleman says it is an exciting move for the organisation.
“The Casey Kidz Klub service is wonderful because it caters specifically for school age children with disabilities and their families, and has been designed by them,” she said.
“We are honoured to have earned their trust and very pleased to carry forward this unique and valuable service.”
Ms Snelleman said Marillac was looking forward to continuing the after-school and holiday care program and potentially being able to offer it to a greater number of children and families in future.
Marillac House is a not-for-profit provider of services to people of all ages with disabilities who live in the south-east region.
With more than 150 staff, the organisation provides services such as accommodation, independent living support, specialised educational and health support for children and young adults and respite services to around 130 people and their families.
