A NARRE Warren North couple are shedding the pounds as part of The Biggest Loser Couples show.
Jodie Curran and her fiancé Craig Debono are in the running to win $10,000 as part of the hit television show’s Biggest Loser Club Second Chance Team.
The couple, who missed out on making it on the reality show, are currently coming fourth out of all the couples after losing a staggering 42.6 kilos.
Ms Curran told the News she had always suffered from a weight problem.
“We thought that by putting our names down for the show it would be a quick and interesting way of losing the weight,” she said.
“We were disappointed we didn’t make the final cut but jumped at the chance to take part in the second chance competition.”
The couple are knee deep in the weight-loss challenge, working with personal train-ers Anna Logan and Kerrie Carlyon at Move it or Lose it Personal Training Plus in Narre Warren.
Ms Logan, who has been involved in fitness for more than 20 years, said the couple were doing extremely well.
“We’ve given them access to the studio 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and encourage them to work out as often as they can,” she said.
The couple are training once a day for an hour and 10 minutes, and walk every night for an hour.
“We’re exercising like demons and eating no carbohydrates after lunch,” Ms Curran said.
To win the competition, the couple need to lose 20 per cent of their body weight by 20 April.
Ms Curran said her insp-iration was coming from their upcoming wedding in October.
“It’s spurring us on,” she said.
“We’ve both been married before but last time I wore a size 22 wedding dress.
“This time I’m aiming for a size 12 dress.”
Ms Curran started at 113.5kg and is now down to 97.7 kg, while Mr Debono was 169.8kg and is now 142kg.
Mr Debono said he wanted a long and happy life with his fiancee.
“Once I get some of the weight off, I’m looking forward to getting back into the sports that I once loved, like ice hockey and cricket, and joining the Army Reserves or even the police force,” he said.
“Jodie is my partner for the competition for the same reasons that I want to marry her; she is the greatest support I have ever had.
“She makes me feel good about myself.
“She’s the smartest and funniest person I know.
“I want us to be around and together for a long time.”
If the couple are the successful winners they will appear on the Channel 10’s The Biggest Loser Couples finale show.
