LOCAL Life. Be In It Centre officials will unveil their new Pink Army social netball competition at Berwick’s Hillcrest Christian College next month.
The competition is the brainchild of the centre’s netball development officer Kellie Holland.
There will be no finals, no strict uniform and – hopefully – no ‘nastiness’.
Centre officials will provide players with netball bibs before each game and donate a percentage of each week’s game fees to the Pink Ribbon Foundation for breast cancer research.
Holland organised a social netball competition for the most recent season, but said the Pink Army will further cater for new-to-beginner players.
“I think, from the feedback I’ve got from the ladies (who play) on Monday nights, that (the Pink Army competition) is attractive because they can wear pants and not a short skirt,” she said.
“There are no finals or anything, so it’s really strictly for fun and there’s not really going to be any nastiness involved at all.”
The competition will be played on Thursday nights and Holland is aiming to attract eight teams.
Holland also hopes the decision to offer prizemoney to the grand finalists in the centre’s Section One ladies’ netball competition at Cranbourne next season will help it appeal to a wider audience.
The premier will win $700, while the runner-up scores $300 in a first for netball at the Cranbourne centre.
There will also be mixed and junior netball competitions at Hillcrest Christian College’s two-court facility on Wednesday and Friday nights respectively.
