Crime decline

By Kelly Yates
CRIME in Casey has declined over the past 12 months.
Police say they are pleased to have achieved a 9.7 per cent reduction in the level of crime in the municipality.
Casey Inspector Andrew Miles said theft of motor car and theft from motor car offences had continued to be a challenge for police.
The Graffiti Reduction Working Group is an example of the productive relationship formed between police and the City of Casey, according to Insp Miles.
“This partnership has contributed to the reduction in property damage offences, with a number of graffiti related offences being solved,” he said.
Road policing will continue to be a focus for police, with rigid enforcement of speed, alcohol, mobile phone and seat belt offences.
The Casey-Cardinia crime desk is one of the busiest in Victoria.
Victoria Police began establishing its crime desk network across the state in 2003 to better collect crime scene evidence and analyse crime trends.
Last year, crime desk officers for Casey-Cardinia investigated 11,303 crimes, the third highest in the state.
Melbourne was the busiest (13,495) followed by Brimbank (12,125).
Crime desk officers use forensic and intelligence based investigative techniques at each job they attend.
