SPEED was the focus of a police operation run in the City of Casey last weekend.
Operation Eagles, which was launched in Casey last month to try to halt the region’s rising road toll, ran on Saturday 8 August in Cranbourne, Tooradin and Pearcedale.
Police impounded three vehicles after catching drivers at high speeds. Casey Inspector Andrew Miles said one driver was clocked at 183km/h in a 100km/h zone while another was caught doing 176 km/h along a 100km/h stretch of road.
“We also nabbed a 32-year-old male from Narre Warren driving an SS Commodore doing 129km/h in an 80km/h zone in Cranbourne,” Insp Miles said.
The man’s car was confiscated, he was fined $500, lost his licence for 12 months and lost eight demerit points.
Police caught drivers committing a total of 96 offences during the afternoon operation.
Operation Eagles will be an ongoing operation in Casey.
