CFA to move shop

By Kelly Yates
THE Narre Warren Fire Brigade will be moving to its new home in Narre Warren South within the next 12 months after an agreement was reached between the CFA and objectors at a recent VCAT hearing.
Operations officer Cliff O’Connor told the News there were two objectors at the VCAT hearing, which was held on 9 September.
“Both sides had the opportunity to put forward their case and discuss their issues and then the agreement was reached,” Mr O’Connor said.
The brigade is looking forward to the long-awaited move to 292 Narre-Cranbourne Road from their Fullard Road station, according to Captain David Beards.
“The current station is very cramped for the size of our brigade. We have to park the truck in our meeting room,” he said.
Captain Beards estimated that the station would be about double the size of the existing one.
He said the CFA had been looking for a suitable site for the new station for more than 10 years.
The new site will house three fire trucks and a car, and the firefighters will have access to whiteboards, data projectors and computers.
General manager of the Western Port Area Peter Schmidt told the News in May that the new site was the ideal location as it took into account the future growth in Casey and the road networks. “It will enable the firefighters to provide an enhanced level of service to the community,” he said.
From 1 July this year to 25 September, the Narre Warren Fire Brigade has attended 100 incidents.
