NARRE Warren South P-12 College is sponsoring its sixth Seeing Eye Dogs program.
River, a golden retriever from Seeing Eye Dogs Australia, visited the school last week as the students held their annual fundraiser sausage sizzle to raise money for the training of the future guide dog.
Seven other dogs in training, Sage, Davo, Omega, Fabulous, Adele, Billy and Oona, and their handlers also made a stop at the school.
The school has been sponsoring the puppies since 2004, with Seeing Eye Dog co-ordinator Tricia Scanlan saying four of the dogs the school has previously sponsored were now with vision impaired people.
The sausage sizzle, held last Thursday, involved the Prep to Grade 4 students and a group of VCAL students.
“The students purchased a sausage, a bone shaped chocolate dipped biscuit and a drink,” Ms Scanlan said.
“The VCAL students cooked the barbecue on the day and then helped deliver the lunches to the students.”
The school raised around $300 from the event.
