Casey takes its chances

Kelly Yates and Bridget Brady
CASEY residents flocked to local punting venues across the municipality on Tuesday hoping for the chance to win big by betting in this year’s Melbourne Cup.
A record amount of punters lined up at the TAB at the Fountain Gate Hotel.
According to staff at the venue, the TAB was busy from 8am up until the main race, which saw Shocking take out the title.
The Melbourne Cup, held on the first Tuesday in November, is Australia’s major thoroughbred horse race dubbed as the race that stops the nation.
While some punted locally, others made the trip to Flemington to watch the race first hand.
News photographers Stewart Chambers and Luke Plummer snapped some of the race action locally and at the track.
