A SECTION of Troupe’s Creek in Narre Warren is being restored, with 5000 indigenous trees and shrubs recently planted.
Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said the important environmental work was restoring the habitat for many native animals, while also improving the quality of the water that flows to Port Phillip Bay.
“Troupe’s Creek forms part of a vital habitat link between the farmland in the foothills of the Dandenongs to Eumemmerring Creek,” he said.
“The creek environment supports many species of frogs, birds, reptiles and small mammals.”
The project, by the City of Casey, local community volunteers and the Port Phillip and Western Port Catchment Management Authority’s Living Links program, is set to cost almost $20,000.
It was co-funded by the Commonwealth Government.
Future works in the area will include the removal of large pine trees, which will be replaced with indigenous eucalypts to help extend the local habitat for native animals and birds, many of which are threatened species.
