STUDENTS at Hillsmeade Primary School have been busy planting roses in the school grounds after winning a regional garden award competition last year.
The Narre Warren South school teaches its students about caring for the environment, according to teacher Evelyn Schultz.
According to Ms Schultz, each year the school plants more than 1000 native plants and works on creating outdoor learning and play areas for the 870 students.
After winning the Schools Garden Awards competition, the school scored a prize of $450 and 20 bush roses to plant in the school.
Jane Edmanson, one of the Schools Garden Awards judges, visited the school on 22 October to help plant the roses provided by Bernie Rowley at the Rose and Fuchsia Farm Gippsland.
