Carols treat

By Kelly Yates
AROUND 3000 people are expected to gather in Narre Warren South this weekend for the annual Carols by Candlelight event.
For the first time in five years, the Narre Warren South Carols by Candlelight on Saturday 5 December will be held in the parklands surrounding the Oakgrove Community Centre.
Event co-ordinator Julie Kelly told the News carol-goers would be treated to a range of amusement rides from 5.30pm to 8pm, an animal farm and face painting.
There will be live entertainment throughout the night, with the carols program starting on the main stage at 8pm. Santa will also call into the event to help spread the Christmas cheer.
Free candles will be handed out at the event, with battery candles also being sold this year.
Ms Kelly said each year the carols event, which is always held on the first Saturday in December, got bigger and bigger.
“When we first ran the event, we had 500 people and last year we attracted 3000,” she said.
Ms Kelly dubbed the Narre Warren South Carols by Candlelight as the “largest event in the area”.
“The carols are a great opportunity for community connection time,” she said.
“Local families should come along to event to start this year’s Christmas season.”
Parking will be available at Trinity Catholic Primary School.
The Narre Warren South Carols by Candlelight is hosted by Metro Church Melbourne in partnership with several local businesses and community groups.
The two major sponsors for the event are the Bendigo Bank and FoodWorks in Narre Warren South. For details about the Narre Warren South Carols by Candlelight event, call 0407 444 986.
