YOUNG readers from a Narre Warren school have played a part in this year’s record-breaking Premier’s Reading Challenge.
The students from Maramba Primary School were presented with certificates from Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan and principal Andrew Groh for finishing the reading challenge.
The 2009 Premier’s Reading Challenge for Prep to Year 10 students across the state broke all records, with students reading 3.8 million books as part of the program.
The challenge asked all students to reach their set reading target by 31 August and this year 6000 more students than last year met their targets.
Mr Donnellan said there was a great participation in the challenge from schools across Casey.
“I had difficulties when I was young because English was my second language, so I know how important it is for kids to read. It’s great to see how many students have taken up the challenge,” Mr Donnellan said.
