CASEY residents receiving a government assistance energy package are reminded to check the credentials of businesses installing the insulation.
About 240 households in Berwick have joined the Australian Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package, which offers $1200 in assistance to install insulation for cooler homes this summer.
Those yet to take up the offer are encouraged to apply the same level of scrutiny when selecting an installer as they would for any other home improvement project.
Spokesman for the package Ross Davidson said it was a requirement of the program guidelines that households obtained two independent quotes.
“While two quotes are mandatory, we recommend getting several. This will help ensure householders receive value for money and help them explore different options for their home,” Mr Davidson said.
Mr Davidson also recommended people asked installers for referees or testimonials and, once the job was complete, ensure they were happy with the installation before signing the work order form.
Householders can check installers are on the Installer Provider Register and find out if they are eligible for the package at www.environment.gov.au/energyefficiency
