POLICE say they will continue patrolling Parkhill Drive in Berwick to ensure drivers are obeying the new 60km/h speed limit.
Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch told the News on Tuesday this week that to date no one had been detected by Casey TMU police breaking the new speed limit.
“We are urging people to take care along Parkhill Drive and to obey the speed limit,” he said.
“As with all areas, we will be taking a zero tolerance stance against people offending against the road rules.
“If you speed, you will receive a fine. There will be no warnings, no leniency and no excuses.”
Residents and a school community joined Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan to rally for the speed to be dropped from 70km/h to 60km/h after 11-year-old Sandra Iredale was killed in a collision along the road in April last year.
The fight for the speed limit reduction has been an ongoing issue in the Berwick community since 2004.
New speed limit signs have been put up along the road to alert drivers about the change.
