Cranbourne downed by Doncaster

CRANBOURNE bowlers slipped up in their Metro Pennant Bowls match at Doncaster and came home with a nine-shot loss, despite winning two rinks.
The rinks of Peter Elgar and Peter Colthup handled the conditions very well to record margins of four and two shots respectively. Despite the loss Cranbourne will hold first or second position on the ladder for the finals.
Doncaster 85 d Cranbourne 76 (L. Quigg 16-25, R. Travica 17-23, P. Colthup 22-20, P. Elgar 24-17).
Cranbourne 2 couldn’t overcome a determined Pakenham side at home and were beaten by four shots in a tense finish. The scores were tied and with four ends to play the rink of Sofio Raiti played some top shots but the roll of the bowl went against the home side and consequently they fell at the last hurdle.
Pakenham 86 d Cranbourne 82 (J. Pentreath 20-23, J. Byrne 18-20, S. Raiti 25-20, N. Fell 19-23).
Cranbourne 3 won a very important match at Edithvale by 16 shots overall and ensured they will remain in Division 3 next season. The star rink was that of Wal Ballard who dominated their match for a 22-shot margin, and the weekly award. Matt Boltong’s rink played well to win by nine shots and skip Roger Roscoe urged his team to a tie and earned one point.
Cranbourne 104 (J. Mulder 22-37, M. Boltong 24-15, R. Roscoe 21-21, W. Ballard 37-15) d Edithvale 88.
Cranbourne 4 continued their winning form with a six-shot win over Oakleigh at home, which should ensure they remain in Division 4 for next season. Cranbourne won three of the four rinks in what was a very tight match. Ken McLeod’s rink finished well for a six-shot margin to ensure victory.
Cranbourne 94 (H. Ferguson 21-25; R. Sorensen 27-24; M. Rowswell 22-21; K. McLeod 24-18) d Oakleigh 88.
Cranbourne 5 could not overcome a solid Dandenong City side and went down by seven shots. There was little in the margins on each rink but Cranbourne had only one winner, that of Theo Van Schalm by five shots.
Dandenong City 91 d Cranbourne 84 (L. Magri 23-25, G. Winters 17-22, T. VanSchalm 24-19, T. Collins 20-25).
Cranbourne 6 travelled to Mt Waverley but were beaten by a better side on the day. Cranbourne lost all rinks but there were some good performances with Kath Dudink’s rink the stand-out.
Mt Waverley 113 d Cranbourne 83 (S. Venville 18-25, I. McCluskey 19-29, D. Meulman 23-32, K. Dudink 23-27).

The Cranbourne ladies were drawn to play Glen Waverley at Glen Waverley in the sectional final but after an enthralling battle the Glen Waverley side drew away to take the final by eight shots. Cranbourne had a big win on the rink of Thelma Lennon by 13 shots but the margin in the other rink was too great to cover. Glen Waverley 55 d Cranbourne 47 (T. Lennon 32-19; M. A. Allen 15-36).

@BT Sub Sport News: LADIES’ PENNANT

Cranbourne sides had another good week on the greens with two wins and a walkover. The A1 team played away against Dandenong RSL/Rec and had a good win by 10 shots. Best winning rink was skipped by Kath Dudink with a winning margin of 21 shots.
Cranbourne 74 (K. Dudink 21 shots up; L. Mulder 10 shots up and L. Whalley 21 shots down) d Dandenong RSL/Rec 64.
The A2 team had a terrific win against Mordialloc, which should stop them from the dreaded relegation for next year’s season. Overall the team won by 42 shots with Shirley Venville’s rink going on to win by 20 shots.
Cranbourne 86 (S. Venville 20 shots up; I. Smith 5 shots up and Thelma Lennon 17 shots up) d Mordialloc 44.
The B1 side suffered badly in the heat and finally forfeited to Edithvale soon after the lunch break with the scores at 34-76.
Cranbourne B2 team won on a walkover from Berwick.
