“INSPIRATIONS” is the title of the new exhibition that will be held at the Old Cheese Factory by the Berwick Artists Society on 27 and 28 February.
The competition is open to members of the organisation and entrants have the opportunity to win up to $800 worth of prizes donated by new sponsor, Hampton Art Supplies.
Local artist Peter Petrucclli will be judging the entrants’ work and said he is looking for people who have technique, originality and overall the best artist.
“It’s lovely to see a group of people doing art,” Mr Petrucclli said.
He also said that art is not supported enough when compared with other activities such as sport and that the Old Cheese Factory is in need of a revamp.
Someone who is set to change that is new president of the Berwick Artists Society Linda Oeser, a former remedial masseur who has “a passion for art”.
“It’s new beginnings for people to come into the society.” Ms Oeser said.
“We need to step outside the square we live in and encourage younger contemporary art.”
Ms Oeser also wants to showcase younger artists and display work that is saleable rather than storing a lot of it, which has been the trend in the past.
The society offers a range of classes and demonstrations that aim to attract anyone interested in art regardless of age or ability.
The exhibition is running for one weekend only in conjunction with the Berwick Farmers Market and entry is free.
Patron and mayor of the City of Casey Lorraine Wreford will officially open the exhibition at 7pm on 26 February.
