Vandals on the rampage

By Kelly Yates
NARRE Warren South residents are left picking up the pieces after vandals went on a rampage smashing letter boxes and car windows, and egging garages this week.
Several cars along Langbourne Drive were targeted in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday) morning, with resident Samantha, who did not want her surname to be used, saying she feared the attackers would return.
The Langbourne Drive resident woke up to find the top of a stone letter box had been thrown through her car windscreen.
Leading Senior Constable Scott Dousha from the Narre Warren police station said police were on the hunt for three men believed to be involved with the attacks which took place between 2am and 2.30am.
Sen Const Dousha said the men also attempted to break into FoodWorks at Amberly Park Shopping Centre with a wrench on the same night.
Samantha said she was angry and upset.
“It’s not the fact they damaged my car but it makes me angry to think about the motive behind the attack,” she said.
The 21-year-old said there was constant hoon behaviour in the area.
“We’ve petitioned for the council to put speed humps down the street but they won’t put them in,” she said.
“We have a lot of kids here and I hate to say it, but one of these days one of them will get hit. I don’t know what it’s going to take for the council to do something.”
The residents are rallying to get fences put up near the vacant paddock opposite their homes, which they say is used as an “access point” for vandals.
“They are going through the paddock to get to our street,” Samantha said.
“We need a greater police presence in the area.”
Anyone with information about the rampage is urged to call Leading Sen Const Scott Dousha at the Narre Warren police station on 9705 3110.
