Students feeling quite chipper

By Kelly Yates
GLENEAGLES Secondary College students used positive thinking and belief to break through their fears and chop through pieces of wood with their bare hands.
Around 60 students in Years 7 to 9 took part in the one-day motivational workshop ‘Brilliant Attitude’ with Bob Allwright last Tuesday.
The workshop helps to master the student’s emotions, self-esteem and mental powers to deal with life’s every-day challenges, not only at school and work but also in their personal lives.
Mr Allwright is one of Australia’s leading speakers and trainers in personal human development and advanced learning techniques.
During the day, the students at the Endeavour Hills school gained more self-esteem, confidence, improved their communication skills and broke through fear barriers.
Mr Allwright says ‘Brilliant Attitude’ is not just about motivation.
“It’s an experience that inspires audiences to take action and be the best they can be using stories, exercises, demonstrations, music, magic and a fear-breaking exercise,” he said.
“Through drama, role-play and demonstrations, we build on the belief that when you change your attitude you change your results.”
Teacher Wayne Smith said the annual event at the school was a “successful day.”
“The students write their fears on pieces of wood and then break through those fears by chopping the wood,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith also took part in the wood chopping exercise, along with some other teachers and the school’s bus driver Peter Brown.
