Kingmaker coach- Berwick City’s Shane Taguaferro (middle) attempts to fend off two Dandenong C

DESPITE losing away 2-1 to Provisional Two side Old Carey, Berwick Kings’ coach Sasha Cohadzic is getting excited about his team’s prospects this year.
The Kings pegged back a 2-0 deficit on their road trip to Carey Sports Complex to be within striking distance of Old Carey with 10 minutes remaining but two missed timed shots gifted the home side the win.
But Cohadzic, who was skeptical at how well his team would perform at the start of the year, is impressed with the effort despite the result.
“We were the more dominant team,” Cohadzic said. “We have been the better team in every game so far this season.”
The Serbian-based club sits delicately poised on the Provisional Two ladder with two wins, two losses and a draw but Cohadzic believes his blue-colour side will only get better.
“We are not being playing pretty soccer or are we being over-run and over-played. We are just doing our job,” Cohadzic said.
But Cohadzic admits that without the finishing touches of a quality striker his team will not be able to capitalise on the strong midfield and defence.
“We have the quality just not the finishing… we’re lacking strikers,” Cohadzic said.
The Kings have until June to sign a striker before the transfer window is closed.
Provisional Two also featured a gallant comeback by Endeavour United who came back from a goal down at half time to draw 2-2 with Whitehorse United at Terrara Park.
In Provisional One Doveton’s Ruzaini Roslan booted two goals and Grant Lane chipped in with one of his own to lead Doveton to a convincing 3-0 win over Old Melburnians at Robert Menzies Reserve.
In the higher leagues of Division soccer, Berwick City were beaten 1-0 in their Division Two match-up against Dandenong City.
Zoran Tudor was the only goal scorer for the match as Berwick City end their four game road trip and look towards this Saturday to play their first home game of the season.
After playing all four matches at opposing venues (their only home game in round two was postponed because of unplayable pitch conditions), Berwick City will host the two leading Division Two teams in Southern Stars and Morwell before they head to Casey to play the Comets.
Along with Morwell and the Stars, the Comets have also found their stride with a 4-3 win over the Eastern Lions at Gardiners Creek Reserve.
The Comets scored three goals in the final half to pull away from the home team.
Meanwhile, the Casey Comets women’s side were left without an opponent when they arrived to play South Melbourne.
South Melbourne chose to employ a clause in the Football Federation Victoria Constitution that states any side possesses the right to post-pone a match if three or more players are unable to play because of representational duties.
With three under 17s missing from South Melbourne’s line to fulfil state squad training duties, South Melbourne postponed the match until the Queen’s birthday long weekend.
In the meantime the seniors and reserves enjoyed a scrimmage match that according to all involved, was as much of a hit-out as any regular Premier match.
