Ryan’s a dextrous

By Bridget Cook
THERE were many nimble fingers at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre over the weekend when the centre hosted a round of the LG National Texting Championships.
More than 535 people put their fingers to the test on Saturday and Sunday, in a bid to take out the qualifying round.
With people allowed to have more than one play, 11,888 attempts were performed over the weekend.
Ryan Ou was the fastest one the day, texting a random 80-character sentence in just 22:95 seconds.
The time also put Ryan at the top of the leader board for Victoria and Australia, with a number of heats already taken place around the nation.
The main competition is performed on a qwerty keyboard, like a computer keyboard.
The fastest competitor in each state will advance to the Grand Final in Sydney, where Australia’s fastest texter will be crowned.
The Australian winner will win $10,000 and will represent the country in the LG Mobile World Cup, with the chance to win $100,000 US dollars.
A competition was also held on an alpha-numeric keyboard. Talya Alkilic won this competition with a time of 1:00:42.
If anyone would like to challenge Ryan for his crown, the final Victoria event will be held at Doncaster this weekend.
