The right time for lights

By Bridget Cook
DRIVERS will be able to turn more safely from Rylands Drive onto Narre Warren North Road, Narre Warren, after the installation of a right-turn arrow.
Local residents and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan welcomed the decision which will see an arrow installed for turning traffic by December.
To ensure that the new phase does not cause delay or congestion on Narre Warren North Road, the arrows will not operate when traffic is light turning right on Rylands Drive and Magid Drive, or when traffic is heavy on Narre Warren North Road.
Local residents Rita and Emmanuel Cuschieri said they were pleased to see that the turn arrow would be installed after many unanswered calls to the City of Casey.
Mr Cuschieri is a regular walker who has seen many accidents at this intersection, the most recent being last Friday.
“The intersection will now be much safer and stop impatient drivers from taking unnecessary risks turning right onto the Narre Warren North Road,” he said.
Narre Warren resident Robert Vaughan said he used the intersection to take his children to school.
He said he was relieved that he will no longer have to feel terrified each time he makes a right hand turn at the intersection.
Mr Donnellan said after meetings with VicRoads and Fountain Gate Shopping Centre developers, he was delighted that action was being taken.
He thanked the residents of Narre Warren for their support for his campaign to install the arrow.
“In a recent survey I conducted in the electorate, road safety was frequently referred to as the most important issue for residents and I am pleased to assist the community in their push to make our roads safer,” Mr Donnellan said.
“This was certainly one of the most important issues facing local residents in Oatlands Estate and as such I have been keenly lobbying the minister for some time to ensure a positive solution which has now been found.”
