A MINOR stack with a competing rider at the starting line during race two of the Victorian Motocross Championships in Shepparaton on Saturday has cost Kade Mosig another state championship title.
With a packed start of 35 riders, the 20-year-old from Pearcedale had clipped a neighbouring bike which resulted in Mosig starting way back in the pack and finishing in 27th position.
Aside from the minor collision, Mosig had a very successful championship finishing third overall, claiming first in race one and three, but was unable to win the title this year.
“I was a little bit disappointed with the crash,” he said. “I could have won it, but I won two out of three races which I’m happy with. You definitely need to be consistent across all three races and try to get as many points as you can. Having two wins definitely helped me get through to third, but that second race was really a big setback to win overall. ”
In front of a few hundred die-hard motocross fans, Mosig said the new Shepparton track had a few quirks but was still a great track to compete on.
“When I hit the other bike, I had to come through the back of the pack which made it quite difficult to pass on that track,” said Mosig. “I came through with no injuries which was good.”
Last year Mosig was involved in a major collision during the Australian Championship at Wodonga and spent months on the sidelines nursing several broken bones in his hand.
Lewis Wood (Traralgon) finished in first place overall with 69 points, Cameron Taylor (Dandenong) finished in second on 56 points and Mosig finished in third with 50 points.
“I raced Lewis all through juniors and he’s always been a competitor of mine,” Mosig said. “He was quite good on the weekend.”
This weekend Mosig is off to Newcastle for the fourth round of the Australian Motocross Championship where he is hoping to nab his first ever national title.
Mosig has won four Victorian championships dating back to 2006 along with three junior championships, but is yet to win a senior Australian championship.
“I’m looking forward to take off from the few wins at Shepparton, get the ball rolling and have a good weekend in Newcastle,” he said.
