The Doveton Connect Program run by Good Beginnings Australia, is set to receive $63,550 in funding from the Rudd Government’s Community Investment Program.
The project supports socially isolated children and families by helping them to develop social networks and facilitates better access to support.
Doveton Connect Site Co-ordinator Mark Roberts said the funding was a welcome investment which would provide both universal services and intensive family support to at risk families and communities.
“The Community Investment Program provides the framework to weave much of the socially inclusive agenda,” Mr Roberts said.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said it was extremely important to build social networks within the community.
“Social networks are one of the foundations upon which our society is built and one of the things that make Australia such a wonderful place to live,” Mr Byrne said.
“The Rudd Government is committed to supporting working families and this money will make a real difference for the next generation of Australians.”
The funding was provided as part of a $19.6 million program that will benefit more than 220 community projects across Australia, to promote strong families, leadership and volunteering.
