Vegie way- Strathaird Primary School students Connor and Sitarah, with teacher Sarah McAleer,

STUDENTS at Strathaird Primary School are calling on the community to help with its vegie patch.
The Narre Warren South school has registered for the McCain School Veggie Patches program, and wants the community and local businesses and families to show support by collecting the barcodes from the frozen vegetable and purely potato packs.
Teacher Sarah McAleer says every barcode from the McCain items will provide points that the school can use to redeem for gardening tools, seeds and equipment such as wheelbarrows, water tanks and compost bins for the school vegie patch.
“This is a great opportunity for Strathaird students to be involved in an educational program that aims to teach children about the benefits of healthy eating in a fun, outdoor environment,” Ms McAleer said.
Nicki Anderson, the marketing director of McCain Foods Australia and New Zealand, said involving children in the process of growing, harvesting, cooking and even buying vegetables was a great way to get them excited about eating vegies.
“The McCain School Vegie Patches program equips students with invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience that will continue to grow with them well into the future.”
Ms McAleer said residents could show their support by collecting the barcodes and dropping them off at the school.
The school is located at 20 Sherwood Road in Narre Warren South.
