CASEY Comets coach Glen Bristow delivered a brutally honest appraisal of his side’s 3-2 loss at Altona in the Women’s Premier League on Sunday.
Bristow described his team’s performance as “diabolical” and pointed out various aspects that are threatening to derail Casey’s season.
“I spoke to them after the game and said that they are not stepping up. No one is taking responsibility, no-one has the commitment or the drive.
“You have to want it to be successful,” Bristow said.
“They can play the right type of soccer. They make top four, they can even win a championship if they wanted to … but it is as if we’re not interested.
“We didn’t want to compete, or be physical we were just flat and disinterested,” Bristow said.
After strong wins against Preston, Box Hill and Bendigo, Altona was not expected to give Casey much trouble and signs were promising when the visitors scored first.
A wonderful strike by Nicola Prins in the 15th minute gave the Comets the early advantage but from that moment Altona dominated as the Comets disintegrated.
Two blunders by Casey defenders gifted Altona City two goals and only an 87th minute goal from Talia Silivestros gave Casey anything to cheer about.
“Maybe when we play lower sides on the ladder certain players take it easy and show them no respect but every game is difficult and you only make it more difficult for yourself when you take it easy,” Bristow said.
Bristow intends to use the next two weeks without a game to concentrate on his team’s consistency and attitude issues.
“We’re going to start again. I told them to go away and have a think about it all and we’re going to address those matters on the track over the break.”
