MPs welcome Prime Minister

By Kelly Yates
MEMBERS of Parliament in the City of Casey have welcomed Julia Gillard as Australia’s first female Prime Minister.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley says she will forever remember where she was and what she was doing during the “momentous occasion” when Ms Gillard was sworn in by the country’s first female Governor-General.
“Julia is intelligent, extraordinarily compassionate and works hard. She is a woman on a mission who has a very natural way with people,” Ms Graley said.
“I am also proud that a Victorian now occupies the highest office in the land.”
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said her appointment was a “good outcome” for the Casey community.
“She understands the outer suburbs of Melbourne very well,” he said.
Ms Gillard has visited the City of Casey on several occasions, with Ms Graley saying the State and Federal Labor Governments had a strong record of working together to benefit the community.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said Ms Gillard was aware of the issues facing working families and residents in Holt.
“A fairer work system and rights for working families, improved and more accessible health services and a better education for our kids,” Mr Byrne said.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera congratulated Ms Gillard on being Australia’s first female Prime Minister.
“Julia is a prime example of what dreams are made of. Grabbed her opportunities with both hands, excelled herself with a good government education, excelled her abilities with further studies in law, stood for public office and now is Australia’s Prime Minister.”
