A BERWICK boy was seriously injured in a car crash last Thursday night.
Police said two cars collided at the corner of Inglis and Buchanan roads at 6.20pm when one of the cars failed to stop at a Stop sign.
Berwick Fire Brigade captain Alan Boyd said one of the cars was hurled into the Berwick Cemetery fence by the force of the collision.
CFA firefighters and SES members used the Jaws of Life to cut the eight-year-old boy and his mother from the wreckage.
Leading Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from Casey Highway Patrol said the boy was taken to the Monash Medical Centre in a critical but stable condition.
The boy’s mother suffered minor injuries.
Leading Sen Const Inderwisch is urging people to drive carefully and keep an eye out for all traffic control signs.
“People need to be aware that traffic control signs such as ‘stop’ and ‘give way’ and speed limits do change occasionally,” he said.
