FOUNTAIN Gate Primary School students were treated to a range of activities to mark Celebrating Learning Week.
The Narre Warren school celebrated the event hosting a guest performer and holding an open night for parents and students among other things.
Acoustic guitarist Lorin Nicholson performed for the students. Mr Nicholson has been blind from birth, but has had a successful career including becoming a finalist in the 2005 Australian Golden Guitar Awards.
During his performance, he played a range of music styles as well as incorporated anti-bullying, respect, inclusion and motivation messages into his presentation.
He also ran a workshop for keen musicians between performances and gave a motivational talk to staff at the end of the day.
An open night was also held at the school as part of the celebrations and parents were invited to come along to check out their children’s artworks.
The artworks were created from native crafts of different countries the students were learning about.
A fresh fruit and vegetable market was held at the open night. The whole school community interacted at the market, where the children could learn more about the importance of fruit and vegetables in a balanced diet.
Parent helpers and integrated students helped pack and display the produce ready for purchase.Local grower Montague Orchards donated apples and pears for the market.
Teacher Margot Tregear said the market was popular with parents, staff and students with customers timing their weekly shopping to coincide with the night.
“Students enjoyed the friendly, relaxed shopping experience at school with their families,” she said.
