Bike busters

TRAFFIC police are educating and enforcing the laws for motorcyclists in the City of Casey as they patrol the streets for Operation Yellow Flag Black Flag.
Police from Casey Highway Patrol are cracking down on motorcyclists speeding excessively and failing to wear protective clothing as part of the operation, which took place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September from 10am to 6pm.
Leading Senior Constable Glen Ziino hit the streets on the police motorcycle and spoke to 112 motorcyclists.
Police found five unlicensed motorcyclists, one unregistered motorcycle and two with suspended driver’s licences.
Lead Sen Const Ziino said they nabbed four motorcyclists speeding and one motorcyclist not wearing a helmet.
Police also issued two notices for unroadworthy motorcycles.
Lead Sen Const Ziino dubbed the operation a “success”, saying the aim was to intercept as many motorcyclists as possible, prosecute those doing the wrong thing and also build a good relationship between police riders.
He said educating riders on appropriate safety clothing and safe riding techniques was also part of Operation Yellow Flag Black Flag, which is sponsored by TAC and the Victorian Motorcycle Advisory Council.
So far this year there have been two motorcyclists killed on Casey roads.
A 28-year-old man died when he fell off his bike in Hampton Park on 18 April.
The Hampton Park man lost control of his motorcycle as he was travelling west along Willow Drive. He died at the scene after he slid along the road and hit a parked car.
A Frankston man, 32, also died this year after he fell from a motorcycle in Cranbourne North.
Operation Yellow Flag Black Flag will run again in November.
