Wetlands overflows

IT’S a slippery start to the day for Hampton Park residents strolling through a flooded area of wetlands.
John Bushell said his morning walk had been interrupted by a flooded footpath in the Hampton Park wetlands from Coral Drive and Ormond Road.
Mr Bushell said it was impossible to walk on the footpath on some occasions, and a bad stench made it a health and safety hazard.
“After rain it smells quite foul,” he said.
Mr Bushell said a nearby property with a dam that sometimes overflowed was one of the reasons for the flood, and he has called on Casey council to put some sort of drainage in place under the footpath to fix the problem.
“With the current condition of this wetlands area, one would not wish to take visitors for a walk through there.”
Casey council said the section of footpath was located on both Melbourne Water and council land, wiht Melbourne Water responsible for drainage.
Council officers have inspected the area and some minor works will be undertaken within the next week to improve drainage near the footpath.
