TWO men are on the loose after terrorising a Narre Warren South couple during an early morning home invasion this week.
The horrific incident left a 36-year-old man with serious injuries in The Alfred hospital.
Police are investigating whether the intruders are linked to a truck which was stolen from Seaford, involved in a collision on Centre Road and found burnt-out one kilometre away about 5.30am.
Casey CIU Sergeant Geoff Rumble said about the same time, two men wearing balaclavas forced their way into a Centre Road home where two adults and two children, aged five and two, were sleeping.
They entered a bedroom and attempted to bind a man and woman with tape.
Sgt Rumble said when the man got in a confrontation with the intruders they dragged him out of the room towards a staircase.
“He ended up with serious head injuries, we believe he may have been knocked unconscious,” Sgt Rumble said.
The injuries are believed to be caused from part of a vacuum cleaner.
The woman also sustained minor injuries to her hand.
Advanced life support paramedics from Berwick and a single responder intensive care paramedic from Dandenong were called to the scene.
Paramedic Kendall Brown said upon arrival, they found a 36-year-old man covered in blood with a large number of cuts on his head.
“He was in a large amount of pain and was naturally concerned about his wife and two children who were home at the time,” Mr Kendall said.
Sgt Rumble said the intruders had not made any demands and nothing was stolen from the house.
He said it was too early to determine the motivation for the crime but police believe it was a random attack.
“It’s quite worrying when a home invasion like this occurs,” Sgt Rumble said.
Both men are described as heavy set and one man is Caucasian.
Anyone with information about the attack is urged to contact police on 9705 3111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
