THE 2010 Holt Community Spirit and Leadership Awards Ceremony recognised 41 young students from schools across the area at the Casey Council Chamber last week.
Over 250 people attended the annual ceremony including parents, teachers and supporters.
The awards ceremony was conducted by Holt MP Anthony Byrne and recognised the outstanding contributions made by the students, and the difference their hard work and dedication has made in their schools and in the community.
“The testimonials from the schools nominating students were outstanding and tell of the great work done by our kids and the strong sense of community spirit that they have,” Mr Byrne said.
“One of the award recipients helped plan and organise a fund-raiser for a fellow student with a disability, which raised $13,000 to go towards essential walking equipment. There were many other similarly impressive testimonials ranging from saving lives to providing bread each day for school breakfasts.
“These awards give me the chance to say thanks to these students on behalf of the community and to let them know how proud we are of them.”
Some 44 schools participated in the awards program. Award winners are nominated by their school and receive a framed certificate and gift voucher.
