Tree crash rescue

By Lia Bichel
RESCUE crews worked for 45 minutes to free a man from a mangled car after it hit a tree last week.
The crash comes less than a week after police made an urgent plea for drivers to take care on the roads after three people lost their lives in about two weeks.
On 9 December, about 2.50pm, Narre Warren Brigade fire-fighters attended a car accident in Webb Street, Narre Warren.
An elderly man was trapped in the driver’s seat suffering multiple injuries and his wife was in the passenger seat.
Narre Warren Fire Brigade Captain Paul Hardy said crews worked for 45 minutes to free the man who was then transported to hospital.
“This man was very lucky, the steering wheel and dashboard ended up in front of the passenger seat. It was a very complicated cut out and the crew from Dandenong Rescue did a fantastic job in freeing him,” Mr Hardy said.
“This is the third serous accident we have attended in Narre Warren in the last week, with two of them resulting in fatalities and all of them involving cars going into a tree. People need to take extra care on the very wet roads we have been experiencing,”
On 2 December, an 18-year-old Cranbourne man who had his licence for 14 days died when he lost control of his car and hit a tree on The Boulevard in Narre Warren South. A 56-year-old Narre Warren man lost control of his car and hit a tree on Chateau Avenue on 4 December.
Casey Highway Patrol Sergeant Pat McGavigan said it was horrible to see three tragedies too close to Christmas.
“How many more people aren’t going to see Christmas?” Sgt McGavigan said.
“I’m asking motorists to take care. No one wants to be involved in road trauma, but a lapse in concentration or the thought it will not happen to them can lead to devastating circumstances.”
